ABOUT

Cooper Lower is an Australian singer/songwriter and acoustic guitar virtuoso. At only 23 years old, he has captivated audiences throughout North America, Europe and Australia with his enthralling guitar work, meticulous storytelling, singalongs, on-stage guitar tutorials, and a calm, inviting stage presence. As one reviewer recently wrote: “A slither of genius embodies the nomad Cooper Lower. An exquisite live performance pioneered by soaring vocal highs, sombre lows and a seamless symphony of percussive guitar and melody. Brilliant, articulate, perceptive - go see this young player!” (Danial Naqvi, UK)

A self-taught guitarist, Cooper finished high school and turned professional. He has since headlined shows throughout three continents, including appearances at Queenscliff Music Festival (AUS), Tollwood Winterfestival (DE), Intu Festival (UK), Port Fairy Folk Festival (AUS), Melbourne International Guitar Night (AUS) and Fretmonkey Guitarist Showcase in New York (USA).

In 2021, Cooper was one of five nominees for Young Folk Act of the Year at the Australian Folk Music Awards. He is a decorated songwriter, most notably receiving the JB HiFi Music Prize for his body of work on Australia’s white colonisation. These works are currently being utilised by teachers in Australian indigenous communities throughout South Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland as stimulus for primary and secondary English studies. He has accomplished all of this while independently releasing three studio records, which include Just a Thought (2015), Impetus (2016) and the Mysteries of Midnight EP (2018), receiving critical acclaim from some of Australia’s foremost music magazines themusic.com.au, Beat Magazine and Forte Magazine.
